The First Annual Washington State 24/7 Summit in SEATAC , WA (May 5, 2016) was a great success.

The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) sponsored event. More than 150 attendees from a variety of states were educated by a variety of
speakers and presentations from program pioneers, judges, behaviorists, data researchers, test site operators, participants, legislative experts and program managers.

One attendee echoed the opinion of many, “This meeting was concise and to the point, it was a very informative day,”.

The meeting was timely as the State of Washington, in the most recent legislative session passed new laws regarding 24/7 programs that were discussed at this meeting. Additionally, Dr Keith Humphreys spoke about the “Principles for Changing the Problem Drinking Behavior in the Criminal Justice System” while Greg Midgette from Rand spoke to the question “Can a 24/7 Sobriety program pay for itself? An assessment of program requirements, costs, and burden.” Midgette’s presentation was a teaser for a study that is expected to be released by Rand sometime this summer.
